Carina speaks out about how she *really* felt being matched with her ex on MAFS Australia

During the very first episode of MAFS Australia 2025, it became clear not-so-new couple Carina and Paul had dated before. The bride and groom had been speaking before the experiment. From the reaction she had at her MAFS Australia wedding, you could tell Carina was the less impressed of the two about the ex reveal.

Whilst Paul seemed excited to have a second chance, Carina rushed to ask producers if they had any other grooms waiting in the wings that she could swap him for. “I know him,” Carina said. “Is there another option?”. Ouch.

But now, speaking in an interview after her wedding aired, Carina has spoken out about how she really felt seeing a *sort of* ex waiting at the end of the MAFS Australia aisle for her. Here’s what she said.

‘I’m so shocked this is the person I’ve been matched with by the experts’

Carina admitted she was just as shocked as how she came across, but knew she had to keep it together for the show. “I was so shocked,” she told MailOnline.

“When I saw him standing at the end of the aisle, I thought, ‘Oh my God. I know this person.’ As you could see, I was swearing under my breath because I was so nervous and had no idea what to expect. But I knew the show had to keep going, so I just rode the wave.”

She told the publication initially Paul had a “lot of making up to do” because of how things ended between them before. But, there was one moment during their wedding day where he finally won her over.

“He went straight up to my parents and told them everything,” Carina said. “That we’d met before and that he wanted to apologise. That took guts, and it really won me over. It showed me the kind of person he is, someone who takes accountability. It made me feel relieved, and I thought, ‘Okay, maybe this really is fate’.”

Carina did however say she was annoyed at the show for not doing better to make sure she wasn’t matched with someone she already knew.

She told 9Entertainment: “I’m so shocked this is the person I’ve been matched with by the experts and there’s no way they would’ve known because we didn’t follow each other on Instagram we had no mutuals.”
