Right, here’s a full rundown of Carina and Paul’s relationship before MAFS and what went down

The pair have differing stories

MAFS Australia 2025 has only just started, but already we’ve learned that new couple Carina and Paul have met before. A great start!

The couple managed to get through their wedding without piping up, but as soon as they got a minute they ran to producers to let them know of the apparent error. “I know him,” Carina said. “Is there another option?”. Ouch. Carina seemed to not like the idea of being back with an ex, whereas Paul was buzzing he’d got a second chance.

But what actually happened? Here’s a full rundown of what we know went down with Carina and Paul before MAFS Australia 2025.

During the show, Carina and Paul said they met on a dating app, and went on one date together. This happened less than a year before the experiment, and they were texting for a bit. Paul explained their first date was a romantic hike, but following this, nothing came of it. Things quickly fizzled out.

Speaking in interviews, the pair have shared a lot more about what went down between them. Carina told MailOnline they matched and then things progressed to a FaceTime call. She explained at the time Paul was “working away” so they didn’t meet up much.

“When he came back, we went on a hike together,” she said. “It was a really nice time, but after that, we didn’t meet up again.” She added: “It fizzled out pretty quickly. I don’t think either of us was in the right frame of mind back then. It didn’t bother me at the time – I was going through my own things as well.”

Carina says it ended when Paul ghosted her, but he has said this wasn’t what happened

During MAFS Australia, Carina was quick to say things didn’t work out with Paul before because he ghosted her. Speaking about how they ended, Carina told MailOnline: “I’m a forgiving person. We all go through tough times, and I believe people deserve second chances. But he does have a lot of making up to do.”

However, Paul has a different story to tell. He claims it was a straight forward case of things fizzling out mutually, there was no ghosting. “I don’t think I ghosted her – we just fizzled out,” Paul insisted to MailOnline. “At first, we were texting a lot and trying to plan a second date, but life got busy.

“She was tied up on her side, I was busy on mine, and it just fizzled out. Looking back, I probably should’ve communicated better and told her where I was at.”

He added: “I was in a headspace where letting anyone into my life wouldn’t have been the right thing to do.  I should have probably said to her, ‘Hey, I think we should leave it there’, but I didn’t. That’s probably why she used the term ‘ghosted’, I guess.”
