The real reason behind Jamie Laing and Spencer Matthews’ fallout, and where they stand now

It appears Made in Chelsea stars Jamie Laing and Spencer Matthews no longer have a strong friendship like they once did. Jamie recently completed five ultramarathons in five days, raising over £2million for Comic Relief. Following this, lots noticed his former bestie Spencer Matthews wasn’t one of the many people to offer their congratulations.

The reality stars have been friends since they were aged 15, at school. They then shared their close bond for the many years they appeared on Made in Chelsea together. For years, it’s just always been assumed that where Jamie is, Spencer is never too far away. They were both the faces of MIC, and were always together.

But recently, this hasn’t been the case. There’s been a lot of speculation around what happened between Jamie and Spencer. So, here’s what we know.

What happened between Jamie Laing and Spencer Matthews?

Spencer quit Made in Chelsea, gave up alcohol and got married to Vogue Matthews. The pair now share three children together. Jamie is godparent to Spencer’s daughter, Gigi. Jamie also left the show, and is now married to Sophie “Habbs” Habboo. In 2020, Spencer and Jamie started their joint 6 Degrees podcast.

But, as their careers took off separately, people started to notice they were spending less and less time together. It’s been reported their friendship never truly recovered from when Jamie “forgot” to invite Spencer to his wedding to Habbs.

The couple got married in 2023, and had a big do in Spain, that Spencer was invited to, but prior to this they had a smaller ceremony in London, and Spencer was missed off the invite list.

At first, people blamed Spencer and assumed he’d been invited, and chose not to go. Addressing the controversy, Spencer said at the time: “I’m being hammered for ‘snubbing’ my best friend’s wedding to go on holiday, and then posting about my holiday. I’m not here to b*tch about my best friends but there’s been some serious miscommunication from him.

“I just want to set the record straight, more than anything. I’m not here to whinge. I was not invited to this part of Jamie’s wedding, and neither was Vogue.” He also added that he was “p*ssed off” not to be invited. Vogue added: “We were not invited. He [Spencer] was very upset, I have to be honest, I’ve never seen him like that.”

Jamie did later apologise for the mix up. He said: “I f*cked up. We had our wedding, our civil ceremony in the UK. It was a hectic process. Amongst the hecticness of getting people there and things like that, I thought Spencer and Vogue were away. Spencer got upset – which is fair enough. So I sent Vogue a message hoping to get a bit of support and then she replied: ‘To be honest Jamie, it’s not good.’ And I was like ‘f*ck’.”

Not long after this, their joint podcast suddenly came to an end.

Where do they stand now?

The pair haven’t *officially* been pictured together since 2020. And now, as Jamie completed his charity challenge, it’s apparent they have “fallen out”. Spencer no longer follows Jamie on Instagram, either.

A source told the MailOnline last week: “Spencer has been a bit non-plussed about Jamie’s challenge which is very odd given they were so close. They were like brothers, he [Spencer] was master of ceremonies at the wedding and they were always there for one another. It is the talk of their friendship group now that they seem to have fallen out. It’s very mysterious.

“Jamie’s run is perhaps the biggest thing he will ever do in his life – surely he must be missing his friend. You now have to wonder what has happened to cause a change in their relationship. Whatever went on, it caused a lot of friction. It’s still being referred to amongst their unforgiving circle.”
