Cardiff University is one of the top 20 most respected UK universities

Cardiff also placed as the most respected Welsh university

The Times Higher Education World Reputation Ranking has revealed the top universities according to their prestige, and Cardiff University actually scored pretty highly.

The list, based on an academic opinion survey of 55,000 academics globally, ranked Harvard University as number one, and the University of Oxford joint second alongside the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). With one of the UK’s leading Universities, Cambridge, not far behind placing fifth.

Cardiff University was revealed to be ranked 151-200th on the list of universities globally, placing it a lot lower in rankings than some of the UK’s competitors. However, within the UK, Cardiff ranked 19th, making it one of the country’s most respected higher education institutions. This also meant that it is the Welsh university with the best reputation among academics.

Outside the top 100 universities in the world for reputation, Times Higher Education ranked universities according to bands based on their prestige based on voter opinions.

Despite Cardiff’s low ranking among the top 100, it scored highly for arts and humanities (126th-150th) and education studies (also 126th-150th), along with law. It was also ranked 101-125th for social sciences and 76th for psychology.

Cardiff may be no Harvard (despite its spin on Harvard referencing), but with an 88.3 per cent research standard and a 91.9 per cent international outlook, Cardiff maintains an exceptional standard for quality.

In previous rankings, Cardiff also scored highly in Times Higher Education’s Impact Rankings which placed the university at 55th globally. It also ranked well for its Health and Wellbeing, putting it 101-200th in the world.
