It’s all kicking off in the Cyrus family, so why doesn’t Miley talk to dad Billy Ray Cyrus?
Miley has ‘no interest’ in repairing the strained relationship
The Cyrus family is once again neck-deep in drama, with Billy Ray threatening legal action against his son and Miley Cyrus staying far from the chaos of her famous family.
Many of us were first introduced to the Cyrus family through the magic of the Disney Channel as Billy Ray played himself in Hannah Montana. But who could have guessed that almost twenty years later the family would be in turmoil with Billy Ray estranged from more than one of his kids?
Most recently, after Billy Ray’s horrific inauguration performance, a source claimed that Miley was staying out of the drama between her father and half-brother Trace Cyrus.
“Miley used to feel overwhelmed by the family drama. She worked hard to remove herself. She’s not about to get involved again,” a source told People. “She’s in a great place now. She’s thriving and looking out for herself.”
Grab a bib, because the long history of drama is messy.
Why don’t Miley Cyrus and dad Billy Ray speak?
All seemed well in the Cyrus household until the dissolution of Billy Ray’s marriage to Miley’s mother, Tish Cyrus, in 2022. In a tale as old as time, Billy Ray and Trish’s divorce created a rift between Miley and her father that was increased even more when he got engaged to Firerose, a singer who he initially met on the set of Hannah Montana in 2007 when she was 22.
They are now in the process of divorcing, but the rumours of Billy and Miley’s fraught relationship increased when the latter skipped her father’s nuptials and failed to thank him in her Grammys acceptance speech.

In July of last year, Billy Ray found himself in hot water once again when leaked audio recordings heard him call Trish a “skank” and his daughter the “devil’s skank.”
“She is a liar … and a cheat. Complete skank. Scum of the earth. A fraud,” he said of his ex-wife, according to PEOPLE.
Though Miley has always remained annoyingly silent about the drama, she did tell David Letterman’s show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, that she understands why he’s built the way he is.
“The way my dad was raised, he grew up very poor in a very small town. His parents were divorced when he was very young. My dad had a pretty rough childhood and my childhood, really—I mean, we can go on and talk about the hard times and the struggles; you know, turning in my homework and learning my lines was tough—but I had food, I had love, I grew up in a beautiful big house,” she said.
“And my dad didn’t have that. So I have a lot of empathy and compassion for his childhood, which obviously developed to create the man he is not that I have a lot of love for.”
Miley hasn’t spoken to him in a ‘long time’
Miley has never been one to slander her father in the press, but after his performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration, sources close to her have said it was the final nail in the coffin of their relationship.
She allegedly hasn’t spoken to him in a really “long time” and has “no intention” of mending those bridges. Ouch!
