Miley Cyrus defends Chappell Roan in a major way and says she reached out to her
‘I wish people would not give her a hard time’
It’s been a turbulent year for Chappell Roan – who has gone from acclaimed underground pop promise to fully fledged superstar, household name and major chart success in a matter of months. With that rapid rise to fame has also come numerous social media posts and statements from Chappell Roan that have received both support and backlash, as she critiques fan behaviour as “weird” and “predatory” and has frequently called out the paparazzi. Whilst some sentiment has been that Chappell Roan is “not cut out for fame” – she’s also had a lot of support from music fans and those in the industry, and legend Miley Cyrus just voiced support for her in a major way.
Speaking in her new cover story for Harper’s Bazaar, Miley Cyrus explained how she felt she needed to defend Chappell Roan amid all this, and reached out to her directly in the wake of her viral statement about fans. “I wish people would not give her a hard time.
“It’s probably really hard coming into this business with phones and Instagram,” she added. “That wasn’t always a part of my life, and I’m not a part of it now. I don’t even have my Instagram password.”
It’s support I imagine Chappell Roan was relieved to hear, considering how much of a huge fan she is of Miley and how much she cites Miley as an influence on her work.
