The Instagram Reels ‘liked by friends’ feed update is wild – here’s how to get it

Instagram Reels is widely known as the place TikToks go to die, a sort of afterlife if you will. It’s where your millennial uncle who refuses to download TikTok gets his fill of Gen Z brainrot humour, and where your mum discovers a new easy five-minute recipe that you’ll be eating for dinner. However, all of that is about to change because it’s now the place you can stalk your friends’ liked videos. Here’s how to get the Instagram Reels “liked by friends” update so you too can overanalyse every video a mutual of a mutual has liked in your feed.

How to see the ‘liked by friends’ Instagram Reels feed update

The first thing to do is open your Instagram app and go to the Reels tab at the bottom. Once you watch a few reels, a bubble with three of your mutual followers’ profile pictures will appear on the right-hand side, with a heart next to each one. There’ll be an arrow next to the profile pictures, which you can click on to take you straight to the Instagram ‘liked by friends’ Reels.

Many people have said they had to scroll up and re-scroll down to get the bubble to appear, so don’t be disheartened if you can’t see it straight away.

It’s the perfect opportunity to see what your crush is watching, what hair tutorials that girl with gorgeous curls is using, or yell at your bestie if she likes too many videos about getting back with her ex. However, be warned that people will be able to see your liked Reels here too, so maybe think twice before you double tap on that thirst trap.

Some people haven’t been able to access this Instagram feature at all, and it could just be that your phone hasn’t updated the app yet. Go into the App Store and manually update the app if that’s the case. If it’s showing as up to date, you may just have to wait before you can stalk your crush. Maybe get a hobby or something instead.
