Omg, MrBeast just offered to buy TikTok before the ban and he actually seems serious

Could he really pull this off?!

The date that TikTok could be banned in the US is getting closer, but MrBeast might be about to save the day.

As it stands, the video app will be removed from the app store on Sunday (January 19) unless its Chinese parent company ByteDance sells the platform.

It comes after Congress passed a law in April 2024 signed by President Joe Biden which gave ByteDance nine months to find a US-approved buyer.

Congress described TikTok as “a national-security threat of immense depth and scale” amid concerns Amrican citizens’ data is being passed over to China.

Bytedance has firmly denied this, but unless a buyer is found, it looks like the app really will be deleted this week. That’s where MrBeast comes in.

The multi-millionaire YouTuber, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, wrote on X on Tuesday: “Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned.”

It sounded like a joke, but he then shared a promising update: “Unironically I’ve had so many billionaires reach out to me since I tweeted this, let’s see if we can pull this off.”

Could the YouTuber really team up with some investors and buy the social media app? He certainly sounds pretty serious about it.

TikTok is estimated to be worth around $84 billion and MrBeast only has a net worth of $85 million as per Forbes, so he certainly wouldn’t be able to do it alone.

Anything seems possible at this point, but with the ban date edging closer and closer, he only has four days to pull it off.

It comes as China is reportedly in talks to sell the app to Elon Musk according to Bloomberg, who bought Twitter in 2022 and turned it into X.

He’s the richest man in the world with a staggering net worth of $417 billion, so a Musk-owned TikTok certainly seems a lot more likely.
