Love Island All Stars producers defend casting Marcel despite him still being married

‘Give the guy a break’

Love Island All Stars is finally back, but cast member Marcel is receiving some mixed reactions for being cast in the dating show considering he’s technically still married. Yikes.

However, the producers of Love Island All Stars have been quick to rush to his defence, stating that whilst they’re aware he’s still married, viewers need to give Marcel “a break.”

Speaking to The Sun, Love Island executive producer Mike Spencer insisted that Marcel “is single” and has had a “really tough time.”

He explained: “He had a wife! Marcel is single. He’s ready to mingle. Give the guy a break. He’s had a tough time.”

He continued: “Well, I don’t know much about his life. But I think he’s a really good guy. He’s so sweet and he’s looking for love. So we are the home of love. We create proper relationships. So why not come and give it a go?”

As for whether Marcel’s exestranged wife Rebecca could be making an appearance in the villa as a bombshell, Mike admitted: “No, she’s not.”

Marcel and Rebecca started dating soon after his messy split from Gabby, with the pair welcoming a son in January 2021, before tying the knot in August of the following year.

However, in March last year, the two announced their split after Rebecca admitted she had cheated on Marcel with American rapper, Slim Jxmmi.

She stated on Instagram: “I’ve made a huge mistake. I’ve embarrassed not only my husband but myself and both our families. My actions were foolish and have hurt so many people around us but most importantly my husband.”

She added: “I want to publicly apologise to my Marcel, just as loudly as the rest of the noise. For all the hurt, embarrassment and pain I have put him through there is nothing and no one in the world that comes before you and our family. No one could ever compare.”

Although weirdly enough, when Marcel was asked if he’d appear on Love Island All Stars soon after their initial split he insisted he wouldn’t because he’s still married.

He confessed: “I’m married, so doing isn’t in my view right now, and it wouldn’t have been at the time.” But unless my eyes deceive me it sure does look like still married Marcel is in the villa as we speak so…
