What is sarcoidosis, the rare disease Dennis thinks he has in No Good Deed?
The illness is a big part of his story
No Good Deed is blowing up on Netflix, a dark comedy about three families who all want to buy the same house.
One of them is Dennis and Carla, a young couple who just got married less than a year after meeting and have a baby on the way.
He thinks the 1920s Spanish-style home will be the perfect place to raise their newborn, but is hit with a huge health scare.
In episode three, we find out that Dennis has high blood pressure and he tells the doctor his dad died of sarcoidosis at just 39.
Dennis is 38, only one year away from the age his dad passed away, so thinks he must have it too and gets a CT scan.
As explained by the NHS, sarcoidosis is a rare condition that causes small patches of swollen tissue, called granulomas, to develop in organs of the body.
It usually affects the lungs and lymph nodes, but can also occur in other organs, and symptoms often improve with treatment.
However, some people get a more extreme version called chronic sarcoidosis which gets worse over time and severely affects their health.
It can be life-threatening if the small patches of swollen tissue progress into heart disease or severe lung disease. However, the risk of death is low.
The symptoms vary widely depending on which organs are involved, so it’s impossible to predict how sarcoidosis will affect a person.
In the lungs, it can cause shortness of breath and a persistent dry cough. On the skin, it can cause painful bumps or patches.
