There’s a massive plot hole in Netflix’s No Good Deed and I’m so confuzzled

Who killed Jacob shouldn’t have been a mystery

People have spotted a huge plot hole in No Good Deed and now I feel my life is a lie. Lisa Kudrow really shouldn’t have been wondering about who killed her son for so long. Here’s the plot hole in No Good Deed, explained. Be warned: Here be light spoilers.

So, let’s recap. In No Good Deed, Lydia and Paul are trying to sell their big fancy family house. Various other couples are going to rather extreme lengths to buy the house. Lydia and Paul are hiding a pretty dark secret though – their son Jacob actually died in this house. Their daughter Emily believes it’s her fault – she mistook him for a burglar and shot him. But things aren’t all they seem. Obviously. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be a TV show, would there?

But people have spotted a plot hole which sort of makes the whole mystery seem a bit silly.

So, Lydia and Paul have a deeply irritating elderly neighbour called Phyllis. She believes it’s her profound moral duty to lightly spy on the whole street and report sus behaviour. Phyllis has loads of cameras set up, and flat-out films people on her iPhone.

Leslie, who’s one of the women interested in the house, gets a bit carried away in her property search. She thinks they’re something up with one of the bedrooms, so attempts to break into the house. A totally natural response. Phyllis catches her trespassing, and reveals she’s got Leslie on film. So, Phyllis must have a camera pointing at pretty much the exact spot where Jacob gets killed.

Someone wrote on Reddit, “Okay, anyone notice the HUGE plot hole where the nosy old lady neighbor sent the video of the lesbian in their backyard EXACTLY where the murder took place three years ago???? That means nosy old lady potentially knew who shot the kid!!!! And had it on video???”

One possible explanation is that Phyllis didn’t have the camera in the same place a few years ago. But we eventually learn there was quite a build-up towards Jacob’s death. I mean, the real killer legit chases him all the way down the street brandishing a gun. You’d think the lady with loads of cameras might have picked up on some of this?

More to the point, wouldn’t everyone on this street of big swanky mansions in Los Angeles have CCTV cameras? Does nobody have a Ring doorbell? It makes no sense that Jacob’s very obvious death was a mystery for so long.
