A man has been arrested after a woman was murdered near the University of Strathclyde’s campus.
Sandie Butler, 40, was found seriously injured at a housing estate in Glasgow’s Townhead area last month.
An unnamed 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with her death. However, Police Scotland has noted that investigations are still ongoing.
Police and emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a disturbance near Dobbies Loan Place and St Mungo Avenue, close to Glasgow City College and the University of Strathclyde, at around 12:55pm. on Tuesday 29th October.
Upon arrival, authorities found the woman with severe injuries, and despite the efforts of emergency responders, she was pronounced dead shortly after. Police Scotland has confirmed that Sandie’s death is being treated as a murder.
According to Scottish Daily Express, Sandie was originally from Perth, and had a 21-year-old son, as well as two primary school age daughters.
Friends have paid tribute to Sandie on social media, with one saying: “OMG no, not Sandie. She was such a lovely person, met her the day she came to Ness and kept in touch since. My heart breaks for you pet, RIP Sandie. Until we meet on other side.”
Police Scotland released a statement confirming: “We were called around 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday, 29 October, to a report of a disturbance in the St Mungo Avenue area of Glasgow. Emergency services attended and a woman was found seriously injured. She was pronounced dead a short time later.”
DCI Watters added: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything around the time of this incident to please contact police. In addition, members of the public are asked to check their CCTV or dashcam footage as this may be significant in assisting us with our inquiries.”
