Brat summer may be well over, but there’s a new phenomenon that has got girls swooning everywhere – rat boy autumn.

There are not many traits that distinguish what makes a rat boy, they simply just have to have a rodent look about them – what a compliment! The phrase spiked in popularity after the release of Challengers back in April, when viewers noticed how the heartthrob leads, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor, resembled the likes of, you guessed it – rats. Mike Faist was labelled by the internet to have more of a mousy vibe, being continuously compared to Stuart Little, whilst his co-star Josh, was said to resemble Remy from Ratatouille.

Josh O’ Connor hasn’t exactly helped himself with this ratty comparison as he continuously sings praise about the Disney classic, claiming he “loves Ratatouille” and that he has seen it “like 100 times.” This is certainly true, because if you took a shot every time Josh mentioned the film in an interview, you’d be a goner.

Despite usually possessing angular cheekbones, sunken eyes and dark hair, rat boys are instead typically distinguished by the aura they possess. Just like the characters of Art and Patrick in Challengers, the ultimate rat boy will go to the ends of the earth for you.

And of course, Matty Healy from The 1975 is arguably THE rat king, especially after he revealed that the head honcho hottie rat from Flushed Away is actually modelled after him. Prior to this groundbreaking announcement, Matty has constantly been compared to Roddy St. James throughout the entirety of his career. This makes complete sense because technically, he IS Roddy.

So, it’s official, all the hot boys are rats.
