All the sunkissed transformations of the Outer Banks cast, from their first to last episode
Who knew blonde highlights were so popular on a desert island
Now that the date for Outer Banks season four has officially been confirmed (coming October 10th and November 7th), we can’t stop thinking about everything that’s happened throughout the show. For a series with only 30 episodes, there’s been a lot of dramatic and noticeable changes in the character’s appearances. Season one premiered nearly four years ago now, so of course the majority of the cast look quite a bit different to their first episodes. Here are the side-by-side transformations of each character from the Outer Banks first episode to last, whilst we patiently await season four.
John B
Even though he was struggling and alone when first introduced in season one, John B genuinely looked pretty well put together in the pilot episode (before he got knocked out by Topper). By the end of season three, I hate to say that he looked like he’d been dragged through that jungle backwards. You can’t blame his character for being so exhausted, but you’re kind of thrown off when the actor obviously had time to get some caramel highlights put in his hair. Hopefully in season four, John B can have a shower and return to his episode one glow (with a fresh tan).
Sarah
Most Read
My poor girl Sarah went through it in season three (and two, and one). The pilot episode was truly the only time she was unaffected by the pogues and their treasure hunt, looking as happy as ever. Sarah hasn’t smiled for the whole of season two and three, but just like John B, she’s got noticeably blonder throughout (and maybe even had a bit of filler?) Plus, her dress sense has definitely gone downhill… but no judgement! She’s been through a lot x
JJ
Out of all the character transformations from Outer Banks first episode to last, JJ’s is definitely the most subtle. He looks the same and he acts the same, but his hair is a little bit longer. His first appearances were wild and hilarious, but in the final episode of season three he was more serious and seemed a little worried. I guess JJ’s main transformation is how he’s changed his behaviour to protect his friends.
Kie
Kie takes the number one spot for the most noticeable Outer Banks cast blonde highlights. Her hair looked so good in the last season that it’s easy to forget how different it was in the pilot episode. Let’s just pretend that it’s all natural from the sun when she’s been running around the Caribbean and South America. She still wears all her cute jewellery and hippie clothes of course, but season three definitely improved her wardrobe. No critiques.
Pope
One of the most underrated transformations is Pope, who was trying his hardest in the first episode to keep his friends out of trouble. Season one Pope was after an academic scholarship but left his interview to help the pogues find the hidden gold. Since this, we’ve seen Pope become less and less concerned with rules and academics, and become a lot more reckless and wild. This can also be seen in his appearance, dropping the fitted shirts and baseball caps for looser and ragged clothes. I think everyone loves this new Pope, but also misses the old one a tiny bit.
Cleo
Cleo first appeared in episode one of season two on the boat that saved John B and Sarah from being stranded in the sea. She was very serious and somewhat violent, with her first scene being her planning to give up John B for a ransom while playing with a knife. In the last episode of season three, Cleo showed her soft side and opened herself up to the pogues. She seems a lot more relaxed and is happy no matter what she goes through with the others.
Rafe
Rafe actually wasn’t in the first episode of season one but made his appearance in the second episode. He was instantly a character to hate, dressed in brightly coloured shirts and shorts whilst making fun of his sister, Sarah. Now, at the end of season three, it seems Rafe is starting to undergo some character development – maybe something we’ll see more of in season four. His hair changes over the seasons have been iconic, particularly the buzzcut in season three. I think everyone can agree that Rafe’s first appearances are not our favourites.
Topper
Topper went completely psycho at the end of season three. This picture from season one doesn’t do him much justice either – maybe he has just always been grumpy. He truly hasn’t changed much, but if anything, he’s gotten worse. The look on his face when burning down John B’s chateau was literally insane, he’s fully lost it. No good transformations around here.
