Drake Kendrick beef breakdown

A diss track-by-track breakdown of the increasingly personal Drake and Kendrick beef

Nine diss tracks this year alone? Enough!

| UPDATED

Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been at rap war for years, but this year it’s been taken to a new level thanks to a recently ignited diss track feud that started in March. It’s a lot to keep up with, so here is a track by track breakdown of what’s been said so far between Drake and Kendrick Lamar as their beef shows minimal signs of coming to any sort of slowing down.

Like That by Future, Metro Boomin and Kendrick Lamar is released – March 22nd 2024

Although the beef started way before this, Like That’s release is the current catalyst for where we find ourselves coming to breakdown the Drake and Kendrick situation in 2024. In the lyrics, Kendrick Lamar shrugs off claims he’s in the Big Three with Drake and J Cole, saying instead “It’s just Big Me”, pissing off Drake for Kendrick claiming he’s in a different league to Drizzy.

Push Ups by Drake is released – April 13th 2024

A few weeks later, Pushups is released which contains the lyrics coming for Kendrick like “You ain’t in no Big Three, SZA got you wiped down, Travis got you wiped down, Savage got you wiped down / Like your label, boy, you in a scope right now / And you gon’ feel the aftermath of what I write down / I’m at the top of the mountain, so you tight now / Just to have this talk with yo’ ass, I had to hike down / Big difference between Mike then and Mike now.”

He also dragged Kendrick’s work with Taylor Swift and Maroon 5.

Taylor Made Freestyle released (and then deleted) by Drake

Drake releases a song again mentioning Taylor Swift and her connection with Kendrick, but the track gets taken down after Drake gets a cease and desist from Tupac’s estate for using an AI generated speaking voice of Tupac in the song. Yikes.

Euphoria by Kendrick Lamar released – April 30th 2024

Kendrick goes for Drake in a song named after the HBO show that Drake is a producer on. On this diss track, Kendrick accuses Drake of getting plastic surgery for his abs, comes for Drake’s parenting (“I got a son to raise, but I can see you know nothin’ ’bout that”) and says that he’s not a rap artist, he’s a scam artist.

6:16 in LA by Kendrick Lamar released – May 3rd 2024

Although it’s not on streaming services, the Jack Antonoff produced 6:16 in LA mocks Drake’s use of times and locations in his tracks whilst also bringing in a prominent Taylor Swift collaborator to rebuff Drake’s digs at Kendrick for working with her. Kendrick raps “Have you ever thought that OVO was working for me? / Fake bully, I hate bullies / You must be a terrible person / Everyone inside your team is whispering that you deserve it.”

Family Matters by Drake released – May 3rd 2024

On the same day as 6:16, Drake drops an eight minute track that alleges Kendrick’s not the father of his son and instead he was fathered by manager Dave Free. He also makes allegations of domestic violence against Kendrick Lamar.

Meet the Grahams by Kendrick Lamar released – May 4th 2024

Just the next day, Kendrick responds with a savage track increasing the beef between he and Drake which if we breakdown what’s rapped he basically tells Drake’s son Adonis that he’s sorry Drake is his father. It also claims Drake has a secret daughter, to which Drake responded on Instagram stories saying “Nahhhh hold on can someone find my hidden daughter pls and send her to me … these guys are in shambles 🤣🤣🤣.”

Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar released – May 4th 2024

Kendrick was on smoke with these releases – two in a day. This one makes the most explosive accusations yet – with Kendrick uttering the instantly viral line “Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A-minor” and then straight up saying “Certified Lover Boy, certified pedophiles”.

The Heart Part 6 by Drake released – May 5th 2024

Drake instantly refutes and denies the comments made towards him in Not Like Us, saying “The ones that you’re getting your stories from, they’re all clowns / We plotted for a week and then we fed you the information/A daughter that’s 11 years old, I bet he takes it.”

And he angrily denied the allegations of underage sex, saying: “Drake is not a name that you gonn’ see on no sex offender list, easy does it / You mentioning A minor … B sharp and tell the fans: Who was it?”

He continued: “I never been with no-one underage … Just for clarity, I feel disgusted, I’m too respected.”

A security guard shot outside Drake’s mansion

Yesterday, a security guard outside of Drake’s Toronto mansion was shot in the chest during a drive-by shooting. This comes after the single artwork for Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar features a Google Maps screenshot of Drake’s property. According to the Independent, Drake is co-operating with investigations but no motive for the shooting has been confirmed.
