Lorraine Kelly breaks silence on Philip Schofield scandal and Holly Willoughby

‘They’re good people’

Lorraine Kelly has shared her opinion on Phillip Schofield and his co-host Holly Willoughby, following his sudden departure from This Morning last May.

Schofield stood down over an affair with a younger male colleague, which prompted an external review of the culture at ITV’s This Morning. In an interview at the time, the 61-year-old presenter called his involvement with the studio runner “unwise but not illegal”.

Willoughby later quit This Morning “for me and my family” after a man was charged with soliciting to commit murder and incitement to kidnap her but has continued to present Dancing on Ice.

“If you’d told me at the start of last year that Holly and Phil Schofield wouldn’t be on This Morning, I wouldn’t have believed you,” Kelly told womenandhome of the presenting duo’s career moves.

“But you know what? The show will continue. She’ll be fine,” she said, adding: “He’ll be fine. Eventually. It will all be OK.”

Kelly spoke warmly of Willoughby and Schofield in the interview, saying: “They’re good people, I miss them. They’re smashing, they made me laugh a lot and every time I was on This Morning as a guest, they were a delight.”

Kelly has a long-standing friendship with Schofield and recalled a time on ITV’s The Cube where he had “never laughed so much” as when she and her 29-year-old daughter Rosie attempted to take on the game show.

Schofield has rarely been seen since his departure from This Morning and subsequent follow up interviews, which went viral for his incessant vaping.

“That relationship was unwise, but not illegal,” he said of his relationship with his younger colleague after he quit the show in June. “It is now over. When I chose to come out I did so entirely for my own wellbeing. Nobody ‘forced’ me out.”
