Liverpool student who received donation from Jack Grealish for treatment dies of leukaemia
Dylan Lamb died despite huge amounts raised on GoFundMe for life saving treatment in America
A first year student at the University of Liverpool has passed away from leukaemia after family and friends attempted to raise £1 million for treatment in America.
Support was received from across the UK, with a donation of £5,000 even being made by English football star Jack Grealish, reports the Mirror.
Dylan Lamb passed away last Saturday after being diagnosed with precursor T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia earlier this year.
A social media post read: “He went to sleep with his family by his side, having said goodbye to all of his friends the day before and he was still full of laughs and jokes.”
A GoFundMe was set up in order to raise funds for live saving CAR-T treatment in the United States, something which is currently unavailable in the United Kingdom.
The GoFundMe page received over £170,000 in donations, with England and Man city star Jack Grealish donating £5000 in July, Dylan’s mother hailed the support as “tremendous”.
Close friends of Dylan’s also managed to raise a further £65,000 by completing the Three Peaks earlier this month.
Diagnosed earlier this year, Dylan started experiencing significant back pain in April of 2022. He went on to visit his doctor where he was prescribed pain killers, and later to A&E with his mother due to the unbearable pain he was suffering with.
Days after this initial visit, Dylan underwent chemotherapy and was informed he required a stem cell transplant.
Originally from Burton-upon-Trent, the 20-year-old student had just begun his studies at the University of Liverpool.
