A timeline of every accusation made against Lizzo and her dance captain Shirlene Quigley

‘This seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for’

Everyone has been left shocked to their core after three of Lizzo’s former dancers filed a lawsuit against her on Tuesday, alleging they were subjected to sexual harassment and hostile working conditions while working for her.

In the filing, the dancers claimed they were put under pressure to touch naked dancers at a club in Amsterdam, shamed about their weight and forced to go through “excruciating” re-audition processes. The dancers – Crystal Williams, Arianna Davis and Noelle Rodriguez – worked with Lizzo from 2021 until 2023.

So, what accusations have been made against Lizzo?

Within the law suit, Lizzo is accused of making comments about Arianna Davis’ weight after they’d performed at South by Southwest. She claims Lizzo and her dance captain, Shirlene Quigley, told her she appeared “less committed” to her job as a dance because of weight she’d gained.

According to the law suit, the conversation left Arianna under the impression that she “needed to explain her weight gain and disclose intimate personal details about her life in order to keep her job,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

In another section of the law suit, the three dancers have claimed Lizzo peer pressured them into going to a sex show in Amsterdam and goaded them to interact with performers there.

“Lizzo began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers” the law suit claims. “Lizzo then turned her attention to Ms. Davis and began pressuring Ms. Davis to touch the breasts of one of the nude women performing at the club.”

‘She weight-shames her dancers and demeans them’

The suit also claimed after Lizzo had convinced herself her dancers were all hungover after drinking heavily the night before their next performance, she’d make them “re-audition for their spots and if [she] was dissatisfied with their performance at the end of the day, the dancers would be fired and sent home.”

Dancers were then allegedly subjected to a 12-hour rehearsal, where they were given few breaks. One dancer claimed she soiled herself because she didn’t get a break and felt like she had to continue practising anyway, worried that “if she left the stage at any point during the audition she would be fired.”

Bearing in mind Lizzo’s lyrics have such a focus on self love and confidence, the lawyers presenting the filing pointed out how shocking these claims are: “The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly, while privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing,” the dancers’ attorney, Ron Zambrano, said.

And what accusations have been made against Shirlene Quigley?

Lizzo’s dance captain Shirlene Quigley was accused in the law suit of severely criticising Noelle Rodriguez for being a “non-believer” and telling other people working on the tour her mission was to get Noelle to embrace her faith.

When Noelle asked Shirlene not to impose her religious beliefs, Shirlene then allegedly became furious and told Noelle “no job and no one will stop me from talking about the Lord.”

‘She was cracking her knuckles and balling her fists’

It was also claimed within the law suit that Quigley had “made comments deriding people who engaged in pre-marital sex, knowing that some members of the dance cast did not share her views,” on multiple occasions. And when Arianna Davis and Noelle Rodriguez quit their jobs with her, she allegedly “screamed” while Lizzo was “cracking her knuckles” and “balling her fists” as if with the intent to hit them.

Shirlene is yet to comment on the accusations but took to her Instagram story after the law suit was filed to tell her followers: “I just wanted to get on here really quick and say God is so, so good!”

Lizzo is also yet to comment on the allegations and did not respond to The Tab’s request for comment.
