Hallam building has changed its name from Owen to Alex in honour of Arctic Monkeys

Alex Turner’s Sheffield roots are finally being recognised

Sheffield Hallam University building “The Owen Building” has changed its name to “The Alex Building” in honour of Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner.

Lead singer of infamous indie band Arctic Monkeys, Alex Turner, has told The Sheffield Tab: “I’m really honoured. It’s always been my goal to get our music out there for the fans, but this is just another level, gobsmacked. Thank you everyone.”

Alex Turner has agreed to visit The “Alex” Building and pose for photos with fans.

There are rumours that the current Andrew Motion quotes down the side of the building will be replaced with the lyrics to “Do I Wanna Know?” by Arctic Monkeys.

It is also rumoured that a picture of Alex’s face will be plastered next to his name too, to attract more students and tourists to the city.

Students all over the city are beginning to notice the building’s name, and it’s confusing everyone.

Although Alex himself didn’t go to uni, he told The Sheffield Tab: “It’s proper important that kids focus on their education these days. So you’ve heard it from me kids, get a degree.”

The project is aimed to attract more students to the city, and support Hallam uni, whilst also promoting Arctic Monkeys.
