Oxford grad Thomas Gilliford is competing in this year’s Great British Bake Off

He got a 2:1 too


Thomas Gilliford, one of the contestants in this year’s Great British Bake Off, is a University of Oxford graduate.

The 26-year-old graduated in 2011 with a 2:1 in Philosophy and Theology, and then went on to also complete Postgraduate study at Oxford in Educational Studies. Thomas was President of his college film club and a member of the whiskey society. He was also a JACARI tutor, a student charity providing home tutoring for disadvantaged children aged 4-16 who don’t speak English as their first language.

Originally from Rochdale, Tom now lives in East London with his wife, Kate, who are celebrating their three year anniversary today. He works in education, currently as a Project Engagement Manager for The Royal Society of Arts specialising in creative learning and development.

Tom has also given his own TED talk, titled, “Let’s ban ‘teachers'”.

Before coming on the show, Tom lost 30kg and says his mentality to food is now “have your cake and eat it.”
