Are they nuts? Students queue for 48 hours to secure a house

What possessed them to do this

| UPDATED houses NOPS Queuing

Out of college accommodation can be tough to get in Oxford.

So much so that a group of mad students have been queuing for 48 hours in the freezing cold in an effort to secure the best properties on offer.

One desperate student started waiting outside NOPS Letting Agency on Walton Street on Tuesday evening to try get dibs on a house – which quickly forced others to get in line.

By Wednesday evening, the queue had grown to 10 people long, even though student accommodation didn’t become available until 9am this morning.

Mental

We spoke to some of the insane people in the queue and even they weren’t sure what they were up to.

Henry, a third year at LMH, said “I’m starting to question why I’m doing this”.

Taylor from Regents said: “I’m so happy about camping outside all night – I’d like to personally thank NOPS for this. At least Regents have provided us with hot chocolate”.

Is it worth it though?

Some think NOPS should do more to help students.

Lizzy, a third year at Worcester, said: “ticketing would make more sense – or, at the very least, they could limit the queue time”.

And with the demand for student accommodation this high, that might not be a bad idea.

And you thought five hours for Morgan Freeman was bad.

The Tab does not endorse the ironic practice of sleeping on the street in order to get a house.
