Norwich is finally catching up with the 21st century and getting free Wi-Fi across the city centre.

The Wi-Fi, which has been rolled out across the city today, will offer shoppers a 5MBps download speed – perfect for uploading your beautiful Norwich Instagrams.

Areas across the city, including the market, Exchange Street, Chapelfield Gardens and Surrey Street, will all be gaining a connection with plans to expand to The Lanes in the new year.

Soon to be up-to-date

There are currently 25 hotspots across the city centre, with a further eight to be added in the upcoming months.

After successfully testing out the free Wi-Fi in 2006, the plans are now being led by Norwich Business Improvement District.

Stefan Gurney, Chief Executive of Norwich BID, said: “Our free city centre Wi-Fi scheme puts Norwich at the forefront of technology and provides real value for social media users and the business community.

“With the technology lifestyles that we all lead, it is now an expectation that a city has Wi-Fi.”
