Dig Deep plan an acoustic night to help students escape the pressure of exams and enjoy some music – all in the name of charity.

Monday 28th April sees Dig Deep host an acoustic night in the Hive to raise money for water aid in Africa.

Across the world, 2.5 billion people lack access to a toilet and 50% of all hospital beds are filled by people suffering from water-borne diseases. Starting in Kenya Dig Deep uses small-scale community-led projects that are both sustainable and environmentally-friendly to bring water sanitation to some of the most deprived communities in the world.

The project’s main aim is to improve the health of East Africans, but sanitation projects also give communities their own autonomy, boost their economy and provide more employment opportunities and a better quality of life. The project is especially beneficial for young girls who are often the ones responsible for fetching water – forced to choose between clean water and an education.

In 2013 alone the charity created clean water supplies for over 10,000 people, including 2000 school children.

The charity night will see students including Christopher Martey, Jess Journo, Steve Clarke, Ed Jones and Rosie Martyr taking to the stage. There will also be a raffle with prizes including a bottle of champagne worth £50, paintball vouchers, Boots goodies, a meal for two at Bella Italia, a Nike football, and more.

Rhiannon Butlin, second year English Literature student and member of Dig Deep Trek Wall of China, said: “We’re so excited about this event, it should be a really great night. We have numerous great acts and I’m looking forward to hearing them all, and it’s all for a great cause.”

Tickets will be being sold in The Hive all next week – £5 in advance or £6 on the door.
