Project nightclub in Norwich has closed its doors indefinitely.

The club, which host’s student favourite club night ‘Propaganda’, has stopped trading due it no longer being "financially viable".

A spokesman said: “The Luminar Group has been working hard to find a solution with the landlord of the club that would see a reduction in rent.

“No deal was forthcoming, leaving Luminar no choice but to close Project, as it’s not financially viable.

‘Propaganda’ has now announced that it will continue to run on Friday nights and will now move to Tao.

Tommy Philbrooks, who runs the Wednesday night 'Be Somebody' event, has said: "Due to Circumstances out of my control, Project has stopped trading resulting in 'Be Somebody' being CANCELLED sorry all".

However the student night will continue to run and people can keep updated here: http://www.facebook.com/BeSomebodyNorwich

Project's website no longer seems to be running either. When trying to access the website you are now redirected to UKclubnetworks.com, allowing you to only access other clubs under the Luminar family.

The club’s former parent company Luminar saw troubles last year when it went into administration.

11 of the company’s 75 venues were shut down but Project was not one of them.

Project and all the remaining Luminar clubs were bought in a £45million deal by a trio of leisure industry specialists – Peter Marks, Alex Geffert and Joe Heanen – on Friday 10 December.

Opened in February 2011, Luminar invested 2 million pounds in the Riverside club, which created 75 jobs.

As a student favourite, there will be, no doubt, hope that the Riverside club will soon re-open.
