On Tuesday 13th March, we spent an enjoyable evening celebrating the best of Norwich’s emerging design talent, with a catwalk show at Project nightclub.

Alice Bodgener: Beginning as a self-taught lingerie designer, Alice Bodgener launched her first full womenswear collection last night as part of Norwich Fashion Week. Her ethereal pieces are inspired by the 1930’s. She describes it as ‘Vintage Inspired Haute Couture’ and her website is launching very soon.

Jane Kenning: An experienced costume designer, including work for Madame Tussauds, Jane Kenning has now turned her hand to creating beautiful embellished corsets, which can be made to order as they are, or incorporated into exquisite bridal gowns.

Peggy’s Collection: This collection specialises in handmade, high-quality knitwear and vintage inspired dresses. Pieces can be made to order, and are also sold on Asos Marketplace.

Monkey Mash: ‘Retro inspired clothing, made with love not labour’ is the tagline for this quirky and colourful designer. Designer Emma sources vintage fabrics and creates retro style dresses to show off killer curves. They are stocked at Daisy & Lola’s boutique in Norwich as well as online.

Marian Williams: An elegant range of Earth Mother, eco-friendly silk dresses made with natural dyes, each one unique due to her method of colouring using natural plant materials. There is also a range of accessories and scarves made in the same fashion, and she can create bespoke, made-to-measure dresses for a special occasion.

Verandah (Marilyn Thomas/Sally Ronaldson): Verandah is a group of Norwich based designers, with stores located in Norwich (85 Upper St. Giles Street) and the fashionable town of Holt. Sally Ronaldson showcased her label Brown Cow; a collection made from vintage fabrics, including curtains. Marilyn Thomas specialises in colourful fair isle knits and accessories.

Poppy Valentine: Possibly the coolest show of the night, with all the models in Jackie O style sunglasses, Poppy Valentine creates vintage inspired clothes and accessories from vintage fabrics. They will also create bespoke dresses, from either your own fabric or your choice from their own extensive selection. They are located at 11, Royal Arcade, Norwich.

Cocoon by City College Fashion Students: This is the debut collection by Norwich City College Fashion and Design students. They design, model and market the garments themselves, with impressive results. Contrasting with most of the vintage inspired designs, Cocoon has quite an edgy, futuristic feel.

Please check out the photos and any of the designers websites, we have to support local talent after all!
