She was found dead in a Manchester hotel room after taking ecstasy

The teenager was found dead at ‘The City Warehouse Aparthotel’ in Great Ancoats Street around 6am on Saturday morning.

Lauren Atkinson, 19, is from Ulverston, Cumbria, and it is believed she had visited Manchester with friends to party at the Warehouse Project.

Police told the M.E.N that she had taken the drug MDMA. Where she got this drug is unknown.

Lauren had come to Manchester to attend the Heldeep event on Friday at Warehouse Project, located on Store Street.

Lauren posted on her Facebook page prior to the Heldeep event, “So excited roll on tomorrow”, with a picture of the set list.

A spokesperson for The Warehouse Project told the M.E.N, “We have been made aware that sadly a 19-year-old girl from Cumbria passed away at around 6am in the early hours of Saturday morning at an after party.

“We would like to continue strengthening our message, especially in the lead up to Christmas for party goers in Manchester and all over the country to act responsibly and look after each other.”

Tributes have begun all over social media, including an appeal to raise money for her funeral which has reached £9,000 in less than 24 hours.

Police told the M.E.N that four people, all from Cumbria, have been arrested in connection with the death.

Two men, aged 24 and 26, have been arrested for possession with intent to supply class A drugs. And two women, aged 24 and 26 were arrested on suspicion of drug possession.

Supt Stephen Howard from GMP said: “This is a tragic situation. The death of a young person is always devastating, but in these circumstances, it is all the more heart breaking.

“My thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.”
