Man Met student Jamie Webb named British indoor 800m champion

He took the gold

Jamie Webb, Manchester Metropolitan Chemistry Student and Sport Scholar, was named the British Indoor Champion for the men’s 800m.

Webb competed at the British Indoor Championships in Sheffield on the 27th and 28th of February, qualifying for the men’s 800m final in the fastest heat time (1:51:06).

He then went on to take the gold in the final, with an outstanding time of 1:51:25.

We asked Jamie how he felt about his amazing achievement.

“It felt absolutely amazing to win my first title. I’m absolutely delighted, it’s a great way to end the indoor season, and it sets me up really nicely for the summer!”

“This year’s race was slow and tactical, so I knew I just had to look after myself, stay out of trouble and stay involved with the race to stand a good chance. It makes finishing fourth over the last two years completely worth it.”

Jamie’s next focus is returning to qualifying for Rio 2016.
