Bobby Charlton to receive honorary degree

Sir Bobby Charlton will be presented with an honorary degree from the University of Manchester this week.

The Manchester United and England football legend will receive the award at a ceremony on Wednesday afternoon.

Charlton scored a record  249 goals during his time at United, between 1956 and 1973.

He was also a member of the 1966 England squad that won the country’s only world cup, and has scored the most goals out of any England player in history – 49 .

Also being honored at the ceremony is Prof Peter Higgs, who won the 2013 Nobel Prize for Physics last week.
