UCL Women's first VIII battled harsh conditions to place a commendable 32nd out of 98, in the Hammersmith Head this Sunday.

Even before the race began, the team faced an uphill battle with Captain Alice C-W being ruled out through illness. Helena Tidey admirably deputized in what was her first appearance in the firsts boat.

UCL clocked an impressive 13 minutes 52 seconds over the 4.5km course between Chiswick and Hammersmith. Fast times were difficult to come by as high winds and choppy waters conspired to create poor racing conditions.

Hopefully UCL can build on this strong display as they aim to better their semi-final appearance at the ‘mecca of rowing’ Henley in June.
