West Yorkshire Police have released harrowing CCTV footage of a man carrying a struggling woman away shortly before raping her.

In the footage the man can be seen carrying the woman through the city centre shortly before the attack took place.

The 24 year old female was attacked just after 5am on the 14th August on Mark Lane, near New Briggate.

The suspect has been described by police as being  a tall black man with a shaved head, aged between 30-40 and wearing a long black overcoat and black trousers.

According to police, the woman was walking to get a taxi home after a night out when she was approached by the man.

They said: “He spoke to her and walked alongside her along Briggate before they reached Dortmund Square where he picked her up in his arms and carried her to the scene of the attack a short distance away.”

West Yorkshire police say they released the video after receiving permission from the victim, who had been left “traumatised” by the attack.

Police are now appealing for any other witnesses to come forward.
