Lancaster takeaway boss jailed after £150k tax evasion
Serkal Bingol was the owner of two restaurants in Lancaster and Garstang
Owner of Lancaster takeaway restaurant Mama Mia, Serkel Bingol, has been jailed for tax evasion.
Bingol defrauded the HRMC out of almost £150,000, according to the Lancaster Guardian.
He has been given a prison sentence of two years.
Bingol owned the pizza and kebab takeaway restaurant, which had locations in Lancaster and Garstang.
It has been reported that Bingol failed to register the businesses with HRMC for VAT to pay tax. The sum of the fraud was calculated at £144,954 – £129,768 through Just Eat sales at Mama Mia Lancaster.
This prosecution comes after a two-year suspended prison sentence and 20o hours of unpaid work for Bingol in March 2019, when he failed to address gas leaks at the Lancaster takeaway. LancsLive reports that he has since completed this sentence and his unpaid work.
LancsLive states the “offence of VAT fraud was so serious Bingol must now serve an immediate prison sentence”.
