Do you secretly hate your flatmates?

Not so secret anymore

For many students the biggest fear about moving into first year accommodation is meeting their flatmates.  The  group of strangers that will be your family for the year and, just like your real family, you don’t get to pick them.

Whilst some lucky folks hit it off straight away it’s near impossible for most of us not to have some spats about who’s turn it is to take out the bins.

Meet the students who say the things we have all been thinking.

Lewis Reeves, 19, Business studies

“My flatmate would have really loud sex all the time. It was so bad I could hear her through three walls but the worst part about it was she didn’t care who could hear, she would just get louder.”

Bethany Jackson, 20,  Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice

“I came home from work one night and there was what I think was Ket on the hob and salt all over the floor and a guy I had never met was passed out on my sofa. As revenge my mate pissed on her door.”

 Roma Mason, 19, Film Studies

“We could never decide who’s turn it was to take out the bins, so we just didn’t bother.”

Joseph Till, 22, English Literature

“My flatmate stole the sofa from the kitchen before anyone else in the flat moved in and refused to give it back for months. I got the last laugh though when my girlfriend threw up in his pan, he still doesn’t know.”

Gethin Jones, 19, Mechanical Engineering

“We all managed to keep the kitchen pretty clean, shame I can’t say the same for the rooms but I guess it doesn’t cause trouble when it’s other people’s bedrooms so you can shut the door and pretend its not there.”

Charlie Miller, 19, Sports development

“I didn’t get on great with one of the girls in my flat. She always accused me of nicking her food. So we cello taped all her pans and cutlery to the ceiling, she really struggled to see the funny side.”

Jacob Heald, 19, Business Studies

“I didn’t have problems with my flat mates but the flat next door were a pain. They stole our special edition Monopoly and then when it came to moving out at the end of the year they completely trashed our flat throwing cereal and stuff everywhere, it was really bad.”

When you can choose who you live with…don’t make the decision lightly.
