Meet Computer Science second year Miss Liverpool

She’s also in the Judo Society

Angelika recently returned from a trip to Park Hall Hotel in Lancashire. Not a common holiday destination you might think, but the University of Liverpool student has spent the weekend being treated like a princess. As a finalist of her first major beauty pageant Miss International UK, the luxury and pampering comes as standard.

Glam second year Angelika Ziolkowska spoke to The Tab about her weekend experience and glitzy lifestyle representing Liverpool.

It all started when Angie received a congratulatory email, declaring her the winner of the Miss International UK Liverpool heat. After hearing the good news she felt “absolutely honoured to be Miss Liverpool, because I love this city.”

Dressed for wet weather

However, she hasn’t lived in Liverpool all her life. The pageant competitor was born in Gdansk in Poland and moved to Liverpool nine years ago.

Our Polish Computer Scientist wanted to enter the beauty contest, as it was an opportunity to get noticed. Angelika said: “Every girl that believes she is beautiful has a chance to apply. Girls are chosen on the basis of photos and measurements.”

And successful applicants are treated to a weekend full of activities. “On Saturday we had registration, sports activities, a British tea party and a pyjama party where we ate cupcakes while watching Miss Congeniality. Then we had a little dance practice.

“On Sunday we had rehearsals, interviews with the judges, and then got ready for the final on stage. Afterwards there was an after party.”

Angelika agreed that it is difficult to manage her home life and her studies, saying: “Of course it is very hard because university takes a lot of my time, but I still try to get this balance.

“At uni I am in the Judo society and have a gym membership. I take part in runs and my next goal is Tough Mudder in September. I also like reading, films and cinema as well as traveling to new places.”

You can’t see me

She added that one of the few disadvantages of getting involved in pageants is the unwanted attention, but it wouldn’t deter her in the future.

Angelika often heads in to town “for a night out with the girls,” and her favourite designers include Sherri Hill, Jovani, and Hobbs. When it comes to casual daytime attire you can find her in Forever 21.

Her idol is Shay Mitchell, “because she is always beautiful, perfect, feminine and cares about health. I love the fact that she’s always traveling and posts amazing pictures from her travels.”

Angelika’s advice to students who are hoping to get involved with pageantry in the future? “Be the best version of you.”
