The University of Exeter falls down to 35th place in new university rankings
The university was judged on a number of factors including the opinions of 346,000 final-year students
The Daily Mail’s recent rankings declare the University of Exeter as 35th across UK universities.
The recent rankings might feel underwhelming for Exeter students, especially considering Exeter’s traditional reputation as a renowned Russell Group university. Yet, these rankings depend upon a wide range of factors.
The Daily Mail’s rankings, like other university rankings include graduate salaries 15 months after leaving the unis, the unis’ incomes from research, and the opinions of 346,000 final-year students.
Unlike the continuity present in previous rankings, this year’s rankings seem to deviate from the usual trends, with many Russell Group universities being placed lower than typically expected. For example, University of York is tied in 35th place with University of Exeter.
Unexpectedly, most of the institutes present in the top 20 UK universities’ come from non-Russell Group establishments, such as Loughborough University at 14th, the University of Dundee at 10th, and the University of Bath at 9th.
Rankings are based on their own methodologies and principles, and the Daily Mail’s is just one of many. For example, The Times 2024 University Guide places University of Exeter at 11th in the country, on par with its past rankings.
Likewise, The Guardian’s 2024 University Guide places Exeter at 18th, situated in the top 20 UK universities. In fact, The Guardian has recently come out with an article explaining its methodology behind the University Guide.
Nevertheless, the University of Exeter remains highly regarded, maintaining its strong academic reputation and high student satisfaction rates, so can’t complain there.
