The Prince Of Wales Spoons is closing temporarily for refurbishment

We’re all just as sad as you are

You heard it here first-Cardiff Students’ favourite spoons, The Prince of Wales, is closing.

But don’t panic just yet, it is only closing temporarily, as a matter of refurbishment works.

The temporary closure will commence from the end of October running through till an unspecified date in November.

Managers of the pub have posted a notice outside, the sign reads: “We apologise for any inconvenience while we carry out internal refurbishment. The pub will be closed from Monday 30 October and will reopen during November 2023.”

Whilst The Prince of Wales may be one of the best, The Cardiff Tab is happy to report it is only one of eight other Wetherspoon pubs in Cardiff. With pubs such as The Great Western and The Central Bar being close favourites.

Not only do we love this Spoons for its cheap and cheerful drinks, the architecture of the pub makes it all the merrier. It’s not everyday that you walk into a Spoons that’s been converted from an 1878 built theatre.

Friday night Prince of Wales antics lives in the present and past of our favourite spoons. The theatre-turned-cinema, specialising in erotic films in 1965, is a testament to its entertaining and unpredictable character.

So what will the latest refurbishments bring to Cardiff’s most popular pub?

Stay tuned for its reopening in November for the new era of Cardiff’s Prince of Wales.
