BREAKING: President Zelenskyy to address The Cambridge Union

The Union will be hosting the President of Ukraine over livestream at 5pm on Friday 10th June

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will be hosted at The Cambridge Union over livestream on Friday 10th June at 5pm.

President Zelenskyy will be addressing several UK universities over a direct stream, with The Cambridge Union included among these. Union President Leti Ryder and President of the Cambridge University Ukrainian Society Oksana Hetman will have the opportunity to ask the President a question live from the Union Chamber.

The Union believes this to be only President Zelenskyy’s second address to a British audience, following his speech to the UK Parliament in March 2022.

The event comes as a result of Ukrainian Ambassador Vadym Prystaiko’s visit to the Cambridge Union, during which Ambassador Prystaiko personally invited the University to meet with the President.

On March 9th, Zelenskyy addressed the House of Commons via a video link, addressing the situation in Ukraine and telling Parliament, “We will fight until the end”.

MPs gave the President a standing ovation, and Mr Speaker stated afterwards, “It was an honour to hear from President Zelenskyy whose calm, yet powerful message from the heart of a warzone was not only inspirational but affected us all.”

Other speakers set to address the Union this term include Stormy Daniels, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, Courtney Love, and Matt Hancock.
