RAG-linked charity closes down
The charity has stopped taking any donations after “financial challenges”
Childreach, an international charity aimed at providing healthcare, education and protection for children, has suspended all activity. They have replaced all website pages with a short note stating that they have "taken the decision to pause all… operations with immediate effect". The charity has not responded to requests for an explanation, but say they will be "creating an FAQ to respond to issues raised".
In September 2017, RAG Cambridge teamed up with Childreach for a sponsored climb of Kilimanjaro. They have been running expeditions since 2010, and have some links with RAG. Will McDermott, former RAG president, who had previously worked as their regional events officer. The Tab has reached out to Will for comment.
This is not the first time Cambridge fundraising has had an issue with the charities involved. Last year, the Cambridge Charity Fashion Show chose to support I AM ADAPTIVE, a charity which had not filed tax returns, had no financial information, and had no records with any charity watchdogs.
Those currently signed up to Childreach events will hear back shortly as to whether the trips will still run.
