Oxford students are currently outselling Cambridge students at a rate of more than two-to-one for the rugby Varsity match having sold around 1500 tickets to Cambridge’s 700.

Cambridge alumni have traditionally outsold Oxford alumni despite the latter being the larger institution in terms of the number of people who attend, and this has continued to be the case this year. A special offer for current Cambridge staff has also meant that, year-on-year, the number of staff attending the game will rise.

Cambridge will be hoping for a fuller stadium than this on 11 December

However, despite the strong support shown for the Light Blues by older Cambridge representatives, students have so far failed to get behind Harry Peck’s team to the same extent. Oxford have usually accounted for 55% of student sales according to members of the official Varsity match promotional team but the figure has soared to 70% this year.

This could prove to be a blow to the Cambridge team who are looking to avoid making an undesirable piece of history, namely, being the first team to lose a fifth Varsity match in a row.
