Cambridge: Better than Oxford

Cambridge ranked world’s second best Uni

league tables Oxford

A league table ranking the world’s top 400 Universities has named Cambridge number two.

The University leapt up a spot from last year’s charts, knocking Yale down to third place.

Edging Cambridge away from the top of the table was Harvard University. Harvard, with an endowment of $26 billion according to the Wall Street Journal, is consistently ranked as world number 1.

Controversially, Oxford University fell to fifth place. In a worrying turn of events for Oxford, University College London triumphantly overtook Britain’s oldest university.

This marks the first time that another British institution has ranked higher than either half of Oxbridge, since tables began five years ago.

The 2009 tables released yesterday, rubbed salt in Oxford’s wounds by tying the grandiose University with Imperial College London.

Despite disappointment for the dark blues, the UK fared well on the tables, grabbing 4 out of the top 10 spots.
The rankings were compiled according to various criteria, including academic peer review, research intensity and international outlook.

Separate tables were compiled to list the top 50 Universities for each of five broad subject areas. Cambridge came within the top five of every single one, and topped the table of natural sciences.
