SUBU encourages ticket fraud victims to come forward

Student Union puts out call to action after students were turned away from the 2014 Summer Ball after unwillingly purchasing counterfeit tickets

A statement from SUBU last week said, “If you were a victim of this fraud we would encourage you to share any information regarding where/who you bought your ticket from with SUBU so we can pass it on to the police.

“You can email information to the Vice President Communications who will ensure any details provided will reach the relevant members of the investigation team.”

Many students found that tickets bought from unofficial sellers were in fact fakes

SUBU confirmed they were aware of counterfeit tickets being purchased before the vent and these were identifiable under UV light.

“The main authenticity test is the presence of a water-mark on the tickets which is only visible under UV light. Needless to say this won’t be the only security feature in future years….we will be making the necessary adjustments to protect ticketing from fraudulent activity in future.”

The Union stated they have met with police on two occasions since the event and continue to pass on information from victims.

You can email information to SUBU’s Vice President Communications – Annie Hall – at [email protected].

SUBU are also advising victims seek further support and guidance from Action Fraud at www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.
