TikTok is accusing Ryan Reynolds of writing his It Ends With Us scene during writers’ strike
He’s getting branded a ‘scab’ online
In the latest of the seemingly endless It Ends With Us drama, Ryan Reynolds is currently getting blasted on TikTok and being accused of being a “scab” after people have theorised he wrote a scene in the film during the writers’ strikes. It’s been reported on since the film dropped on Friday that Ryan Reynolds (who is the husband of the film’s star Blake Lively) wrote the film’s famous rooftop scene. This alone has been controversial, but even more so now rumours are circulating Ryan Reynolds wrote It Ends With Us scene in the midst of the writers’ strike.
It turns out the infamous rooftop scene in It Ends With Us was actually written by Ryan Reynolds and apparently the actual screenwriter of the film had absolutely no idea. As if that wasn’t savage enough, the screenwriter revealed in an interview that she’d actually assumed the scene had been improvised because of the writing.
@saronthings Am i reading too much into this or did #ryanreynolds cross a picket line by writing for #itendswithus no matter how small the contribution? #popculture #popculturenews #blakelively #colleenhoover
TikToker SaronThings explained her theory on why she thinks Ryan Reynolds might be a ‘scab’ for potentially writing the It Ends With Us scene during the writers’ strike. A “scab” is a term branded to people who cross the picket line of a protest, going back to work rather than standing with the strikes.
“The woman who wrote the It Ends With Us screenplay, Christy Hall, said she turned in her script prior to the writer’s strike. Then she rejoined production to give feedback during the editing process. She noticed that there were differences in some of the dialogue that she just assumed were improvisation. It wasn’t until the premiere on August 6th that she found out along with everybody else that it was Ryan who had penned that dialogue.

“I need to know when that editing process was because if it was during or right after the writers’ strike means it would have been written during the writers’ strike. To find out on the red carpet with everybody else he actually wrote those bits in, potentially during the writer’s strike – it’s giving scab.”
Blake Lively first revealed her Ryan Reynolds involvement in the It Ends With Us rooftop scene, during an interview with E! News. She revealed: “The iconic rooftop scene, my husband actually wrote it. Nobody knows that, but you now.”
Christy Hall, explained how the rooftop scene was “probably the trickiest one to tackle” because it is “perfect in the novel.” Okay sure. She told People: ” My first attempt at that scene, I really tried to just honour what Colleen wrote, almost word for word. I really, really tried because I just think that she did it best. What’s tricky about that scene is it’s long.”
“I am very proud of my work, and I do feel like the beats that needed to be honoured in that scene are preserved and they’re there. Again, Colleen did it best. She did it first and it’s from her. I do think that that scene is a really beautiful reflection of what she penned from the beginning.”
