It Ends With Us writer savagely thought rooftop scene Ryan Reynolds wrote was ‘improvised’

It turns out the infamous rooftop scene in It Ends With Us was actually written by Ryan Reynolds and apparently the actual screenwriter of the film had absolutely no idea.

As if that wasn’t savage enough, the screenwriter revealed in an interview that she’d actually assumed the scene had been improvised because of the writing. Yikes.

Blake Lively first revealed her Ryan Reynolds involvement in the It Ends With Us rooftop scene, during an interview with E! News. She revealed: “The iconic rooftop scene, my husband actually wrote it. Nobody knows that, but you now.”

The film’s screenwriter, Christy Hall, explained how the rooftop scene was “probably the trickiest one to tackle” because it is “perfect in the novel.” Okay sure. She told People: ” My first attempt at that scene, I really tried to just honour what Colleen wrote, almost word for word. I really, really tried because I just think that she did it best. What’s tricky about that scene is it’s long.”

“I am very proud of my work, and I do feel like the beats that needed to be honoured in that scene are preserved and they’re there. Again, Colleen did it best. She did it first and it’s from her. I do think that that scene is a really beautiful reflection of what she penned from the beginning.”

However, it turns out Christy had no idea that Ryan Reynolds ended up doing a lot of the writing that ultimately made the final cut, as she thought they had just been “improvised” moments.

“Like, when he says, ‘Pretty please with a cherry on top’ and then she talks about Maraschino cherries. I did not write that, and I knew that I did not write that, but I thought it was potentially improvised on the day.” It’s giving major shade…
