Blake Lively dragged for ‘forgetting’ It Ends With Us character is a victim of domestic violence

‘Justin Baldoni is using his press time to talk about the importance of stopping the cycle of abuse’

| UPDATED

The It Ends With US drama rages on after Blake Lively is dragged online for failing to talk about how her character in the film is a victim of domestic violence. The star, who is playing the lead in the Justin Baldoni directed adaptation of the popular Colleen Hoover novel, has been criticised for making the press tour of the film all about self promotion amid rumours of big cast and production drama between her and director and co-star Justin Baldoni.

It Ends With Us stars Blake Lively as Lily Bloom – who is torn between two men and gets involved with a man who starts abusing her in violent outbursts. Whilst the film releases today, the press cycle for It Ends With Us has been going on for some time and Blake Lively has found herself in the firing line on social media for not talking much about the important themes in the story. One particularly potent tweet has really called her out.

One writes “Blake Lively forgetting her character is a victim of domestic abuse and instead trying to give the entire press run a silly, goofy Barbie moment whilst Justin Baldoni is using his press time to talk about the importance of stopping the cycle of abuse is why I’m always on his side.” The side in question refers to the apparent feud between Blake Lively, the cast and Baldoni.

Another said “out of everyone from that cast it’s insane that only he has taken the initiative to talk about the domestic abuse aspect of the film. Whilst Blake Lively is promoting her brand.” Blake Lively is seriously getting dragged for her lack of consideration for the It Ends With US themes, and you can kind of understand why.

Another said “Blake Lively is actually super f*cking weird for using her press time to try to have a Barbie / Oppenheimer moment with her husband instead of remembering her character is a victim of domestic violence.” This refers to how Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds are promoting in tandem their respective (and very tonally different films) – It Ends With Us and Deadpool & Wolverine.

Reynolds has been rumoured to be the catalyst in a lot of cast drama surrounding It Ends With Us. This has all been widely discussed by tinfoil hat wearing pop culture commentators and film fans. “You literally can’t convince me that Ryan Reynolds isn’t the reason for all this Justin Baldoni/It Ends With Us drama, and I feel like Justin doesn’t want anything to do with the drama, and for that reason, has chosen a step back from the PR events leading up to the movie,” pop culture TikToker Arianna Lillie said in one video. “And I’m not saying that Blake Lively has specifically been problematic, but I knew something was up the second I heard that Ryan Reynolds was coming in and rewriting scenes of a movie that Justin Baldoni is not only starring in, but also directing, and is the whole reason this project is happening.”
