Olympian who went viral for her ‘Mickey Mouse’ voice admits it’s not her real accent
Femke Bol explained exactly why her voice sounds so high pitched in interviews
The Olympian who went viral for her “Mickey Mouse” like voice has admitted to changing her accent – and has explained exactly why she does it.
Clips of Dutch track and field athlete Femke Bol first blew up in March when viewers noticed that her uniquely high voice was uncannily similar to the voice of Mickey Mouse.
Explaining why she sounds so different after a race, Femke explained that the exhaustion and excitement she feels after a race causes the pitch of her voice to go “up up up”.

Femke won bronze yesterday at the Women’s 400m Hurdles and was interviewed by cameras after her race, again sounding very similar to the Disney icon, Mickey Mouse.
But the Olympian doesn’t always sound this way. In a different interview clip uploaded toTikTok, Femke sounded completely different and explained that the high emotions and adrenaline of her races affects her voice.
She said: “It’s not a huge compliment but it is like it is, I am who I am and it’s like this.”

Being asked about the viral clip and why her voice is so high pitched, she said: “It is always like this when I get out of breath and I get happy – it goes up, up, up. And after a world record I am pretty happy and pretty exhausted.”
Luckily she finds the funny side of the hype, adding: “Maybe I’ll find a career for after track.”

It’s quite impressive to be both an Olympic athlete and a voice actress – and the internet thinks so too. After Femke’s race in March which earned her a new world record, one caption accompanying a clip of her interview read: “I swear if you close your eyes, you could convince yourself Mickey Mouse has just broken the 400m indoor world record for Netherlands…”
I’m glad to see she’s taken it in her stride, bronze medal and all!
