Okay so what actually is the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Infinity and is it even a game?
The franchise will never be the same
There’s a lot coming up in Ubisoft’s future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and nearly all of it Mirage aside is shrouded in mystery. There are certainly at least two massive games on the way, currently codenamed Red and Hexe respectively, but more confusing and mysterious still is the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Infinity. Is it a game? Is it something else entirely? Here’s all you need to know about what Assassin’s Creed Infinity actually is.
What is Assassin’s Creed Infinity?
Okay so first thing’s first, the biggy – if you will, AC Infinity is not a game. Instead, it’s a platform, a hub, acting as a way for players to jump into different Assassin’s Creed games supported on the platform. It’s a bit like the in-game Animus characters use, but for players. It all sounds a bit weird t0 be honest, but it will supposedly help Ubisoft build on stuff easier for developing future games.
All future games in the franchise will need players to be using or owning Assassin’s Creed Infinity to launch them. Marc-Alexis Côté, the project leader for Assassin’s Creed, told IGN that you can buy future games standalone and in boxed form but before playing them you’ll get directed to Infinity.
What’s the point of it, though?
Okay well here’s the good bit. You know how when you play an Assassin’s Creed game and you can’t be arsed getting pulled back into the modern day storyline? Infinity is basically going to be the home for all the modern day content, with characters using the Animus to reach the game your playing via Infinity.

It probably won’t release until 2025, when Codename Red and Codename Hexe finish development and are due release considering they’re the first two games built with Infinity in mind. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will release this year without Infinity.
