Ranked: The Russell Group unis where students are paying the most in rent
It’s not looking good for London unis x
Queen’s Belfast is officially the Russell Group university with the cheapest rent, whereas three universities of the top five with the highest accommodation costs are all in London.
A new league table from RateMyPlacement has rated UK unis, including all of the Russell Group, on things students actually care about. As well as cheapest accommodation, it looked at the price of pints, how likely you are to get a job after graduating, the number of nightclubs, how much a monthly gym membership is, and more.
The most expensive uni in the country based on average weekly accommodation costs was Russell Group uni LSE, at an eye-watering £261 per week. The next Russell Group uni with the most expensive rent was Edinburgh – £222 per week. And of course, London students see the most expensive pints at an eye-watering £6.
At the other end of the scale, Queen’s Belfast is the Russell Group university with the cheapest rent, with the ranking finding the average accommodation costs for Queen’s students to be £95 per week. The second cheapest Russell Group uni was Sheffield, where students are apparently paying £100 a week on average.
