Vote: What was undeniably the best Netflix show this year?

This is like choosing between my CHILDREN

This year, we’ve had a lot of good TV. Arguably some of the very best in a long time. And speaking of, many arguments have probably started over what was the ultimate Netflix show of 2021 – so now it’s time to finally decide, in a fair and square vote. This is probably the most important decision you’ll make in your time.

From huge impact dramas like Squid Game, to good ol’ reality TV trash like Selling Sunset and Too Hot To Handle – we’ve had it all this year. But which is ultimately the very best of the best? Here is a roundup of all the best and most watched titles that were released on Netflix in 2021, and you can vote for your favourite show at the end.

Squid Game

via Netflix

Squid Game has become the most watched title in Netflix history, and tbh, it deserves nothing less. The story of 456 players getting deep into the game of life and death had us all in a chokehold. I will never look at an innocent looking old man in the same way.

YOU season three

via Netflix

At this point, we’re all obsessed with Joe Goldberg and we don’t care who knows it. Season three saw the Quinn-Goldbergs head off to Madre Linda and Love bonking half the neighbours over the head. Don’t talk to me about the ending, I’m not ready.

Sex Education season three

via Netflix

Inject every bit of content from Moordale into my veins. Am I still crying at Ruby telling Otis she loves him? And still not over the poo scene? Maybe. Just maybe.

Ginny and Georgia

via Netflix

Why did we love Ginny and Georgia so much? A fresh teen drama was honestly a god send this year. Yes the show had its fair share of controversy, and Ginny is a bit of a brat, but the twisted story of her and her dark but iconic mother Georgia, her friends and them finding their place in a new town was refreshing and entertaining. Plus, Marcus. He’s enough to carry this show. And every Friday I still think about “Happy Friday, happy Friday, good morning Ginny and welcome to Friday!” My toes are curling.

Selling Sunset season four

A vote for the best Netflix show in 2021 and which new releases were the best this year

via Netflix

Season four of Selling Sunset came just when we needed it. There is never not a need for huge houses and drama. I could watch it all day, every day for the rest of my life. This season saw huge drama between Christine and Emma, two new realtors, a baby and loads of celebrity clients.

Big Mouth season five

via Netflix

Season five of Big Mouth gave us even more puberty-fuelled chaos. The Lovebugs and Hateworms were introduced, and tbh, I wasn’t ready.

Outer Banks season two

A vote for the best Netflix show in 2021 and which new releases were the best this year

via Netflix

If you’re Pogue 4 Life, this season of Outer Banks will not have disappointed. The hunt for the cross and the treasure was truly on, and remember when we all thought Sarah might be dead?! And the ending!!! Give me MORE.

Behind Her Eyes

via Netflix

To be honest with you, I’m still not over this show. The ending shook every bone in my body and now I’m not sure if my body even belongs to me. Are we all pigeons? Who is Rob? WHO AM I?! Is Adam ok?!

Fate: The Winx Saga

A vote for the best Netflix show in 2021 and which new releases were the best this year

via Netflix

Don’t talk to me about how invested I am in a drama that is effectively all about fairies. I was on EDGE thinking Alfea was about to be taken over by those creepy burned monsters. Otherworld? The barrier? Specialists? Burned Ones? All part of my vocabulary now. Oh and btw, the actors who play Sky and Bloom are dating in real life now too, obsessed.

Midnight Mass

via Netflix

This year we were blessed with another Mike Flanagan series, yet again proving him to be the best in the horror game. Midnight Mass is original, high concept, unpredictable and had a great cast to top it off. Oh, and can we talk about the island location? Incredible.

Never Have I Ever season two

via Netflix

Devi and her chaotic ways will always have a special place in my heart. This season saw the love triangle with her, Paxton and Ben really hot up. And guess what?! We still don’t really know what’s going on inside her head! God, love her.

Lupin

A vote for the best Netflix show in 2021 and which new releases were the best this year

via Netflix

Two parts of Lupin have been released on Netflix this year, both of which have been a smash for Netflix. The world-famous gentleman thief and master of disguise is now a household name all over the world.

Shadow and Bone

via Netflix

Fantasy series Shadow and Bone follows Alina Starkov, who stumbles upon her impressive power of being able to summon light, which then flings her into a life she could never have imagined. It’s magical. That is all.

Sex/Life

A vote for the best Netflix show in 2021 and which new releases were the best this year

via Netflix

Are we at all surprised everyone become obsessed with Sex/Life? I raise you episode three and say no, no we are not.

Maid

via Netflix

Maid follows single mother Alex, who turns to housecleaning to make ends meet as she escapes an abusive relationship and overcomes homelessness to create a better life for her daughter, Maddy. If you’re not crying by the end of it, I think you might be dead inside.

Money Heist season five

A vote for the best Netflix show in 2021 and which new releases were the best this year

via Netflix

Season five of Money Heist saw the Spanish drama end its huge run. 69million households have so far watched the final episodes, which bring the story of The Professor and his bank-robbing gang to a dramatic close. What do we do with our lives now?

Too Hot To Handle season two

via Netflix

Too Hot To Handle is top tier reality TV. Watching people not manage to keep their hands off each other when there’s literally thousands of dollars up for grabs whilst your sat at home eating crisps in bed is such tonal whiplash, but I love it. This season was more fiery than ever, and Lana throwing in the little twist with the money not being split at the end? Love that from her.

Bling Empire

A vote for the best Netflix show in 2021 and which new releases were the best this year

via Netflix

I really didn’t know I needed Bling Empire until I had it. Straight away in Bling Empire on Netflix we’re introduced to a bunch of rich heirs and heiresses living their best lives and splashing cash. Within the first episode you already know that their lives are crazy, the drama is intense and their bank balances are enviable. I still live my life by Anna saying “there ain’t no dick that good”.
