Here’s everything we know about the Tracy Beaker reboot

Brb, searching house prices on Duke Estate

It has been a solid 15 years since The Story of Tracy Beaker aired its last episode in 2005. Since then, we have seen many more rebirths of the iconic TV show. But this is a safe space, it’s okay to admit that they were all pretty shit compared to the authentic, crisp, and stunning original series. Since 2005, there has been a real-life Dani Harmer sized hole in the nation’s heart but now thanks to the current news of the reboot, we are able to fill that hole and smile again for the first time since the mid-noughties.

Obviously the newest series is going to be a little bit different from the original. For example, it’s likely we won’t see all of the popular characters come back and we probably won’t see Elaine the Pain get struck against the office walls after being blasted with icing. Either way, the most iconic creation to come out of the noughties is returning to our screens once again and people are mega excited. Tracy Beaker Twitter has been popping off all morning.

In case you forgot

Here is a list of everything we already know about what to expect in the reboot:

The story won’t be told by Tracy Beaker

You read that right, the story will actually be told through the eyes of Tracy’s 12-year-old daughter, Jess.

It’s still based on a Jacqueline Wilson book

So the official name of the reboot is ‘My Mum Tracy Beaker’, unless you’re a porridge brain then it’s clear the story will be told from the perspective of Tracy’s child. Jacqueline Wilson wrote this book back in 2018 and it’s all about Tracy’s new life as single mum to her daughter.

Tracy will be nearing the end of her 20s, dating a former footballer and will be working between jobs.

Tracy and Jess will live in the ‘tough’ Duke Estate

I already know what you’re thinking because I’m thinking the same thing. Duke Estate, I miss Duke Ellington so much, the friendliest guy. I really hope he makes a comeback. (Also now just realising his name is Duke Ellington like the famous composer? Our child brains could never.)

In an interview with Stylist, Jacqueline Wilson said that this book is a little bit darker compared to her previous ones. Wilson said: “I don’t want an ‘absolutely everything is quite wonderful’ ending – after all, at the start of the first book Tracy herself says life isn’t a fairy story where everyone lives happily ever after.” Jess and Tracy are set to live on a ‘tough’ housing estate in London and are struggling to get by.

However, she did also mention that she has a soft spot for Tracy and of course, will get her the happy ending she promised fans.

It will be aired in 2021

Filming hasn’t started yet but we can expect to see My Mum Tracy Beaker on BBC iPlayer. Right now, the only cast confirmed in Dani Harmer herself, and it was reported by the Radio Times that they are currently casting for Tracy’s daughter Jess right now. Cam definitely gives off big nana vibes.

Me when I realise I’ve got to wait until 2021 to see TB on my screen

Tracy has a rich boyfriend

Back in the day, Tracy used to tell everyone her mum was a rich and famous movie star who lived in Hollywood. Now Tracy’s got herself a rich boyfriend who, in the book, whisks Tracy and Jess off to his big mansion and away from their mouldy flat in Duke Estate.

His name is Sean Godfrey, it’s not confirmed whether he will be in the series but it would make sense for him to be there. In the book, he has a love for fast cars and celebrity stardom and sounds like a really annoyingly good looking asshole.

Life was simpler back in 2005 when it was all about Ben and Tracy’s romance.

I miss you 🙁

Tracy is a lowkey WAG

If you’d have told seven year old me that (wait for it)……………………. Tracy Beaker would be footballer’s wife in 2021, I would have told you to bog off. But it’s true. In the book, Jacqueline Wilson toys with the idea that Tracy is kind of “saved” by her ex-footballer boyfriend who drives flashy cars, hangs out with famous people, and has a lot of moolah. But, Wilson tells The Guardian that it’s also important to remember that “you can be a happy, fulfilled person and have achieved a lot, but you don’t have to have fame and riches, as Tracy always wanted.”

Jess will struggle with hay fever

Okay, you’ve caught me out. This one is obviously a joke but it would be jokes if it’s true.

We can expect Tracy to still be feisty

Speaking to The Sun about the reprisal of her iconic role, the 31-year-old actress revealed: “I can’t wait to return again to the role of Tracy. I’m a fan myself and want to know what happens next and where this journey takes her.

“Being a mother, I know how much it changes you. So I’m looking forward to seeing how it has changed Tracy but still keeping her the same feisty, strong female lead that people know and love.”

It’s been hinted that we will see a return of old characters

On Amazon, the book description reads: “My Mum Tracy Beaker is a fantastic new story, reuniting readers with a much-loved old friend (and some old enemies. . .)” I’m just going to put it out there right now that if we see Justine Littlewood and Tracy Beaker have a row on my TV screen, I might actually weep.

The 2018 book also brings back iconic characters like Cam, Tracy’s foster mum.
