Sheer amount of Instagram followers Macklemore has gained, as Ed Sheeran’s figure still plummets

Instagram has spoken in what’s been happening with Ed Sheeran and Macklemore this week. Macklemore was dropped from Ed Sheeran’s tour, following pro-Palestine comments. And now, people are making it very clear which side of history they want to be on.

Macklemore was the support act for Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour, before he was removed after a performance at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on 4th September, where he made a speech about Israel and said “Free Palestine” between songs.

Following this, Macklemore went on to say businessman Bob Kraft, behind Kraft Sports Group which owns a number of stadiums, had orchestrated his removal from the tour. Ed then posted a statement to say the decision had not been his, and claimed he does not use his platform for politics – despite people dragging up plenty of examples of when he has. All three of his support acts, and his own band, then quit the tour.

So, how many Instagram followers has Macklemore gained, and how many has Ed Sheeran lost?

In the last two weeks, Ed Sheeran has lost a whopping 318k followers on Instagram. His worst day by far was on Tuesday this week, when just shy of 150k people decided to stop following him. He then lost a further 100k on Wednesday (16th).

Earlier in the week, it was recorded that Ed had only lost around 77k – so this number has increased dramatically as the story has become more widespread. 

On the flip side, Macklemore’s count has gone dramatically up. He has gained 2.1million followers in the last two weeks. Yep, millions! He gained over 400k on Monday (14th), over 750k the following day, and a further 731k on Wednesday (16th).

Just to put this into even further perspective, in an average two week period prior to this, Macklemore was gaining around 5k followers. So he’s gone from 5k followers in two weeks, to 2.1million.
