Major radio station issues statement as it PULLS all Ed Sheeran music from air
Oh this is big
In a major turn, a radio station has released a statement confirming that it has pulled Ed Sheeran off air, following Macklemore being dropped from his tour.
Macklemore had been the support act for Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour, before he was removed after a performance at the MetLife Stadium, at which he made a speech about Israel and said “Free Palestine” between songs.
Following this, Macklemore went on to say businessman Bob Kraft, behind Kraft Sports Group which owns a number of stadiums, had orchestrated his removal from the tour. Ed Sheeran then posted a statement to say the decision had not been his, and claimed he does not use his platform for politics – despite people finding plenty of examples where he has. All three of his support acts, and his own band, then quit the tour.
Ed Sheeran has since been dramatically losing Instagram followers, and has had backlash for his “on the fence” stance. After this, a radio station has decided to completely stop playing his music.
Classic Hits Radio said due to a response from its listeners, it had made the decision. The station is based in Ireland, where Ed Sheeran is from, so this really is a statement.

Dave Kelly, group programme director at Bay Broadcasting, which runs the station, said: “Our decision to remove Ed Sheeran’s music from the Classic Hits Radio playlist has been carefully considered. It is not intended as a personal judgment on Ed Sheeran, and we acknowledge his own explanation of the circumstances surrounding recent events.
“As an independent Irish-owned radio station, however, we believe it is important to listen to our audience and to stand alongside Irish artists who have made what is undoubtedly a significant professional decision based on their own convictions.
“Ultimately, our position is a simple one. We believe in peace, humanity and respect, and in the right of people and artists to express and act upon their sincerely held views. In light of the strength of feeling expressed by our listeners and the decisions taken by Irish artists involved in the tour, we believe removing Ed Sheeran’s music from our playlist is the appropriate decision for Classic Hits Radio at this time.”
